Blister and sore care
Blister and sore care
A blister on a healthy foot is a nuisance; on a diabetic or neuropathic foot it is how an ulcer starts. We treat the wound properly and then find the friction that caused it.
What's Involved
- Wound care — Sterile drainage or debridement and an appropriate dressing.
- Infection assessment — Checking for cellulitis and treating it before it spreads.
- Cause identification — Footwear and gait review to remove the pressure point responsible.
When to Come In
- A blister that will not heal — Anything open beyond a week or two.
- Signs of infection — Increasing redness, warmth, odour, or drainage.
- Reduced sensation — Any sore on a foot where you cannot feel pain normally.
