Cardiovascular risk management
Cardiovascular risk management
Heart disease and stroke are the leading causes of death in people with diabetes, and the risk is manageable. This is about the blood pressure, cholesterol, and vascular screening that sit alongside glucose control rather than behind it.
What's Involved
- Risk profiling — Blood pressure, lipids, and cardiovascular risk scoring reviewed together.
- On-site testing — EKG and, where indicated, ankle-brachial index and carotid screening.
- Treatment — Statin and blood pressure management, with referral where symptoms warrant it.
When to Come In
- Diabetes with other risk factors — Smoking, high blood pressure, or raised cholesterol.
- Chest discomfort or breathlessness — Any exertional symptom needs assessment.
- Family history — Early heart disease or stroke in close relatives.
