Diabetic eye exams
Diabetic eye exams
Diabetic retinopathy causes no symptoms until it is advanced, and by then some of the damage is permanent. An annual dilated exam catches it while treatment still preserves sight, and we have the retinal imaging in-house to do it properly.
What's Involved
- Dilated retinal examination — A full view of the retina, which a screening photograph alone cannot replace.
- OCT and retinal imaging — Detection of macular swelling and documentation for year-on-year comparison.
- Retinal specialist access — Direct referral to our retina specialist when treatment is needed.
When to Come In
- Annual review — Every year from diagnosis, regardless of how good your vision is.
- Blurred or fluctuating vision — Changes that often track your glucose control.
- New floaters — Which can indicate bleeding inside the eye and needs urgent review.
