Flat foot treatment
Flat foot treatment
A flat foot is only a problem when it causes pain or drives problems further up the chain, and adult-acquired flatfoot can progress if it is ignored. Treatment starts with support and strengthening long before surgery is on the table.
What's Involved
- Weight-bearing assessment — Standing examination and gait review to see how the arch behaves under load.
- Imaging when indicated — On-site X-ray to assess bone alignment and rule out other causes.
- Support and strengthening — Custom orthotics, bracing, and targeted tendon strengthening.
When to Come In
- Arch or inner ankle pain — Aching along the posterior tibial tendon after standing.
- An arch that has collapsed — A visible change in foot shape compared with years ago.
- Knee, hip, or back pain — Symptoms further up that track back to foot mechanics.
