Keratoconus management
Keratoconus management
In keratoconus the cornea thins and bulges into a cone, and vision distorts in a way glasses cannot fix. Managing it means both restoring functional vision and watching whether the cornea is still changing.
What's Involved
- Corneal topography and pachymetry — Shape and thickness mapping to stage the condition and track progression.
- Scleral lens fitting — Lenses that vault the irregular cornea and restore clear, stable vision.
- Progression monitoring — Repeat scans so cross-linking can be considered before more shape is lost.
When to Come In
- Rapidly changing prescription — Especially astigmatism that shifts between exams.
- Ghosting, streaking, or glare — Multiple images or halos around lights at night.
- Family history — Keratoconus in a close relative warrants screening.
