Lazy eye evaluation
Lazy eye evaluation
Amblyopia develops when one eye is not used properly during childhood and the brain begins to ignore it. It is highly treatable when it is found early, and much harder to change once a child is older, which is why screening matters more than symptoms.
What's Involved
- Full paediatric eye exam — Vision measured in each eye separately, with cycloplegic refraction.
- Alignment and binocular testing — Checking for the eye turn or focusing difference driving the amblyopia.
- Treatment plan — Glasses, patching, or drops, with regular reviews to confirm the weaker eye is catching up.
When to Come In
- An eye that turns — Drifting in or out, even intermittently.
- Head tilting or squinting — Habitual posture that suggests one eye is doing the work.
- A failed school screening — Any referral, regardless of whether the child reports a problem.
