Macular degeneration treatment

Age-related macular degeneration damages the central part of the retina, blurring the detail you rely on to read, drive, and recognise faces. It is manageable when it is caught early, so our ophthalmologists track it with retinal imaging and build a plan around the form and stage you actually have.

What's Involved

  • Dilated retinal exam — A close look at the macula to grade the disease and separate dry AMD from the wet form.
  • OCT and retinal imaging — Cross-sectional scans that reveal fluid, drusen, and thinning long before you notice a change.
  • Ongoing plan — Nutritional guidance, home monitoring, and referral for anti-VEGF injection when the wet form is present.

When to Come In

  • Straight lines look wavy — Doorframes, kerbs, or text that bend or ripple.
  • A blur or blank spot in the centre — Faces and words fading while side vision stays clear.
  • Family history — A parent or sibling with AMD means earlier, more frequent screening.
