Venous insufficiency treatment
Venous insufficiency treatment
Chronic venous insufficiency means the valves in the leg veins no longer hold blood against gravity, so pressure builds in the lower leg. It is the reason behind most leg swelling, skin discolouration, and non-healing ankle ulcers.
What's Involved
- Duplex ultrasound — A full venous map identifying which segments have failed.
- Compression and treatment — Graduated compression alongside closure of the refluxing veins.
- Ulcer care — Coordinated wound management where the skin has already broken down.
When to Come In
- Swelling by the end of the day — Ankles that indent when you press them.
- Skin changes above the ankle — Brown discolouration, thickening, or itching.
- A leg ulcer — Any wound near the ankle that will not heal.
