Visual field testing

Peripheral vision loss is almost impossible to notice on your own, because the brain fills in the gaps. Automated visual field testing maps the full extent of what each eye sees and is the standard way glaucoma damage is measured over time.

What's Involved

  • Automated perimetry — A quiet, seated test mapping sensitivity across the whole field of each eye.
  • Baseline and repeat — A reference result you can be compared against for years afterwards.
  • Interpretation — Results read alongside your optic nerve imaging and eye pressure.

When to Come In

  • Glaucoma diagnosis or suspicion — The core test for tracking whether the disease is progressing.
  • Neurological symptoms — Field loss patterns that point to something beyond the eye.
  • Licensing requirements — Field testing required for a commercial or restricted driving licence.
